Camping is a fantastic way to get out there and forget about your troubles. Every day life can be full of anxiety and stress, so it’s good to step away from it every once in a while. Before you go camping, however, it’s useful to keep what you’re about to read here in mind at all times.

Did you know that a simple mirror can save your life? If you are camping and end up in a survival situation, a simple hand held mirror can be used to signal for help many miles away. Do not buy the standard glass mirror, many camping supply stores sell mirrors made of Lexan that will float and are practically unbreakable.

If you are traveling with children, give them the opportunity to assist you when you get to the campground. They can carry gear, support you as you set up the tent and look for firewood. Not only will it keep them busy and out of trouble, it will be fun for them as well.

If you have a toddler, pack a blanket. You can lay it out on the ground and use it as a makeshift play area. Bring cars, dolls, or whatever items your child is into. They can play without getting too dirty and you can instruct them that they need to keep their toys on the blanket for safekeeping. This will help to keep things from getting too spread out.

Check the weather updates for the camping site that you choose to go to. The Internet is a great resource for finding weather related information for the area you will be camping in. By knowing the weather, you can ensure you pack the proper equipment and clothing for your camping trip.

When you are heading out for that long awaited camping trip, don’t forget to take along your cell phone. You may be tempted to leave all the texting and calls behind, but your cell phone can be one of your most important safety lifelines in the event of an emergency. Make sure it is fully charged and keep it protected from the elements in a plastic bag or waterproof case.

When it is time for you to go to sleep, it is a good idea to put the coolers that you brought along into your vehicle. Bears have become quite savvy these days and have figured out that these coolers usually carry food items and this will attract them to your campsite.

Bring a hankerchief or a bandanna with you. They can serve many purposes, like potholder, blotter, hand towel or carrying bag. It has a multitude of uses and should be an essential part of your camping gear.

Remember to pack a camera. There are some memories you’re going to want to capture on your camping trip. Bring along a small camera that can fit in your pocket. Try to pack something durable that could stand getting dropped or becoming a bit wet. Consider using a disposable camera.

No matter if you are going camping alone, or with a huge group, you need to always bring along an emergency kit. The content of this kit should be personalized to the type of camping you will be doing. For example, if you are camping in an area that may have poison ivy, make sure you pack hydro-cortisone.

Now that you know what camping entails, you’ll be able to come up with a plan so your trip goes more smoothly. Knowing what to expect is only part of the fun though, the main part would be actually getting out there and doing it. Use what you have learned here, and have a stress free trip!
